The difference in one paragraph
A cloud VPS is a slice of a large physical server, with its own guaranteed CPU, memory and disk. It is ready in minutes and easy to resize. A dedicated server is the whole physical machine, used only by you. It takes hours to set up, but nobody else shares its CPU, memory, disks or network port.
Side by side
| Cloud VPS | Dedicated server | |
|---|---|---|
| Starting price at Dataklo | ₹870 a month | ₹9,999 a month |
| Ready in | Minutes | 4–24 hours |
| Performance | Guaranteed share, can vary slightly at peak | Steady, the machine is yours |
| Resize | In minutes | Add parts or move to a bigger plan |
| Traffic included | 2–8 TB | 10–30 TB |
| Best for | Websites, bots, APIs, test servers | Databases, ERP, SaaS, game networks, streaming |
When dedicated becomes cheaper
Hourly cloud pricing is good value when servers run for a few hours a day. For a server that runs all month, you pay for every hour. Add data transfer charges, which many global clouds bill per gigabyte, and a fixed monthly dedicated server often wins.
A simple test: add up a month of your current cloud bill for the servers that never switch off. If it is close to or above the price of a dedicated plan with the same cores and memory, move those servers to dedicated and keep the cloud for the rest.
A quick way to decide
- Under 8 vCPU and 16 GB, or switched off at night: cloud VPS.
- Busy all day, a database, or more than 5 TB of traffic a month: dedicated.
- Need to start today and grow later: start on a VPS; one migration to dedicated is free.
